Welcome to this month's newsletter. There is a sincere effort underway to give all of you a thorough update each month as to what all this apostolate is undertaking. We hope you are enjoying them.

We are beginning Lent, which always creates the framework for slowing down a bit and reflecting on what our Lord did for us. Our sacrifices during these forty days will open up possibilities of having a closer union with Him, helping us in our striving to do our heavenly Father's will. May God bless you and your families throughout this Lent.

Apostolate for Family Consecration Programs spiritually form Soldiers in Afghanistan
The AFC donated resources for a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Afghanistan. The resources included 15 Family Catechisms as well as Cardinal Arinze’s commentaries on the Family Catechism and the 4 Gospels. 20 Soldiers and Airmen joined the first meeting. They wanted ‘a study on the Catechism to refresh their spirituality and to “relearn” some of our beliefs, traditions and teachings.’ The local catechist reported: “the program is so wonderfully user-friendly that everyone could join in
and not ‘feel left out or behind!‘ Word is spreading around the FOB (Forward Operating Base), and to other FOBs.” They are also using FamilyCatechism.com as well as the Divine Mercy resources online at Familyland.org.

AFC Families March for Life
On Friday, January 25, an estimated 500,000 people descended upon the U.S. Capital to defend life from womb to tomb. Among them were many members and friends of the AFC, including members of the Catholic Corps and the year-round Alumni Corps. They sought to be a voice for the voiceless as the nation marked the sad anniversary of 40 years since the legalization of abortion.

The March was a very positive experience for those who were able to participate.

Our prayer is that the sad reality of abortion will come to an end. Until then, we continue to defend those who cannot defend themselves. We will continue to work for the conversion of hearts, because we know that it is in the heart that the battle for life is ultimately waged and won.

"Offer your youthful energies to building a civilization of Christian love. Be witnesses of God's love..." -Pope John Paul II to the youth, 1993, Denver, CO.

The presence of the Year Round Alumni Corps has been a tremendous blessing to the AFC Family. The gift of youth is priceless, and we're so grateful to the youth we have among us - they are our future! We thank them for answering a call to strengthen Catholic families through this ministry.

They are doing this through prayer and service in the areas of processing registrations, booking youth program speakers, and helping in other departments such as Development, Facilities Management, Kitchen, and Publishing.

Thank you!

The following Members have expressed their desire for Life membership and have been invited to make their lifetime commitment, which is the final step to confirm Life membership. The couples include Jim and Judi Buttram, and Barry and Betty Hurtz.

25 Years of Consecrated Service to the Holy Family!
Rory Freiermuth has, once again, entered the limelight. This time he has achieved the silver anniversary - 25 years as a consecrated celibate in the Apostolate’s Catholic Corps. Rory serves as the head of the men’s community. Thank you Rory for your continual prayers for families and your service to Christ through this family ministry.

Check out this commemorative video honoring Rory and 7 other 25-year CC members!

Holy Family Fests: Please invite New Families!
We still have cabins reserved for new families. Most families come because someone recommended they try it out. Give a family the gift of Hope that they will receive from attending a Fest. One alumni family last year described below the impact of a Fest on the mom of new family they had invited:

“She was so happy about all they learned at CFL. How wonderful she learned too that since she made the Consecration, with all the diapers she changes, mouths she feeds, etc., etc., she is a spiritual powerhouse :)”

Please pass along to others this email or this link: http://tinyurl.com/FestCommercials which features some new Holy Family Fest Commercials.

In closing, I echo the request of the Bishops for the daily family rosary. St. Louis de Montfort pointed to the power the rosary will unleash in your family:

“Never will anyone who says his Rosary every day be led astray. This is a statement that I would gladly sign with my blood.”

On behalf of the staff here at Catholic Familyland and United in the Holy Family,

Alan Zimmerer, President
