Happy Easter! He is truly risen!

Our Catholic Corps, Alumni Corps and Disciple members on staff experienced an excellent silent retreat during Holy Week. The focus of the retreat was a deepening of conviction, of bold assurance, that God really does love us personally and profoundly. His passionate sufferings on Calvary were evidence not only of the violent pain that our sins inflict upon His Adorable Heart, but also the extreme lengths that God is willing to go to prove Himself worthy of our love and complete trust. The retreat master, Professor Douglas Bushman, Director of Theology at Ave Maria University, challenged us

as a ministry to lead families to this same certitude of God’s love as the starting point for a vibrant living out of the Family Consecration way of life.

We know that Our Lord has incredible plans for renewal and joy in all families, since He has deigned to sow within this family ministry such a powerful infusion of grace through this retreat.

Divine Mercy Sunday 2013- Jesus I Trust in you!
AFC members shared the incredible gift of God’s Mercy on the Feast of Divine Mercy! Let us
know if you would like help organizing something similar for next year.

Steubenville Diocese: Triumph of the Cross Parish held a multi-group, 40-day study in preparation for Easter and Divine Mercy Sunday, using the AFC’s preparation videos and books. The Feast of Mercy was celebrated at Holy Name Cathedral and included a talk by the AFC’s International Chaplain, Fr Kevin Barrett .

Omaha, NE: 22 priests offered the Sacrament of Confession at St. Margaret Mary Church as AFC videos were shown. Participants venerated the Image of Divine Mercy, the Miraculous Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and a special relic of St. Faustina.

Women’s “Duc in Altum Youth Retreat” at Catholic Familyland
On President’s Day weekend, 61 young women from the ages of 15-24 were in attendance. The retreat included talks on authentic femininity, Marian devotion, dating and marriage, as well as time for personal reflection and prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. One of the highlights of the retreat was a talk by Emily Stimpson, who spoke about authentic femininity and
women’s unique role and purpose in God’s plan for humanity. Everyone came away from her talk with new insight.

The retreat also included time for fun and games. Floor hockey was a favorite, particularly the Sunday night retreatants versus staff games (the staff remained undefeated after 7 games!). The snow over the weekend added extra fun for the girls with many impromptu snowball fights.

Men's “Duc in Altum Youth Retreat” at Catholic Familyland
Fifty young men attended this intense weekend of inspiring talks, quiet reflection, spiritual renewal and competitive games. Keith Major, a former protestant pastor, gave
a powerful testimony about the effectiveness of fasting and prayer, and how his love for prayer eventually guided him to the Catholic Church.

Dr. Mark Miravalle delivered an excellent talk explaining Marian Dogma in the Church and the possible proclamation of a 5th Marian Dogma about Mary as Mediatrix of all Graces.

As a ‘Thank you’ for your prayers and support of building Catholic families through this ministry, we are offering you a free download of Dr. Miravalle’s talk from the retreat.

St. Joseph (Winter) Workfest 2013

Thanks to 24 generous workers, we had a fruitful and rewarding Workfest and accomplished the following:

  • Food served by some awesome moms to all the workfesters and the
    youth retreatants! Whew!
  • Replaced a ceiling in a room at Sacred Heart
  • Prepped (wire-brushed, sanded) the metal frames, decks, stairs and
underside of two of our toilet trailers; then primed and painted them
  • Rebuilt 5 vinyl-covered wood platforms for the jungle gym
  • Removed rust, primed and painted many metal chair frames
  • Repaired appliances

One Dad summed up well the experience: “All the men I have met through the Workfests are

faith-filled. I love the sacraments and prayer time we spend together, but getting something done for the Apostolate is what we are about.”

Others said:

Daily group prayers teach us how to be calm, confident and consistent at our work, and in the end, I think we all get more done and with fewer problems.”

I enjoyed renewing friendships with workfesters from previous years. I can’t wait for the next one. Highly recommended for all dads and sons!

In closing, I repeat St. Louis de Montfort’s words:

“Never will anyone who says his Rosary every day be led astray. This is a statement that I would gladly sign with my blood.”
